Address: 8-37-17 Tateishi, Katsushika, Tokyo
Tateishi is an area located in the West part of Tokyo. Literally meaning “standing stone”, it refers to the stone brought to the area approximately 600 years ago. Locals worshipped the stone and refer to it as the Tateishi-sama with the formal suffix. During the Edo period it was believed it was the incarnation of the Divinity Inari; deity of general prosperity and worldly success, in the form of a white fox. The stone originally measured between 20 and 60cm but only 2cm can be seen nowadays due to subsidence. .
